Kindness Connects Us All – Links of Kindness

Keep our “Kindness Chain” moving! Our kindness chain is on the move throughout the west hall.  Our goal is to get the students thinking about acts they do to be kind and to be able to self-nominate an act of kindness they do.  We want students to explicitly identify the kind things they do everyday and how much those acts are appreciated by those around them.  We do not want to replace the A+ tickets; we want to help students recognize kindness and act with kindness among themselves and each other.  The A+ tickets are given out by us as staff; however the chain links can be given out in the following ways:

  • Students may nominate themselves for a kindness chain link
  • Students may nominate other students for a chain link
  • Parents and Staff may catch a student doing a kind act and remind them it is worth a kindness chain link.
  • Let them know they can make a difference with a kind word, a smile and a positive attitude.

Please remind the students to cut out and decorate their links!  Once completed, they can put the cut-out and decorated link in the box outside the office (near the fish tank).  Click here for a blank Kindness Link for you to encourage your child to fill out, decorate, cut out and turn into the kindness link box outside the office!  There is no limit to the number of kind acts we can do!

Registration for Math Pentathletes will be completed online this year

Tournaments Dates are:

  • DIV I (kdg/1st grade), 3/27/10 at Stony Creek High School-Rochester
  • DIV II (2nd/3rd grades), 4/17/10 at Farmington High School-Farmington
  • DIV III (4th/5th grades), 5/8/10 Royal Oak Middle School-Royal Oak.

Our DIV I Gill MP Team must complete registration by Wednesday, February 17th.

Our DIV II & III Gill MP Teams must complete registration by Monday, March 1 to receive a discount.  Parents/Guardians must follow the links below to the Math Pentathlon Registration information to register and pay for their own child(en) to participate in a Tournament this year. Each Student/Sibling must be registered for participation in their Tournament. The fee for each participant is $35 if registration is completed by our Gill Deadlines stated above (sorry, no discounts for multiple students in a family).  Only VISA and MasterCard are accepted on this online Registration Site.  Online Registration link: http://www.mathpentath.org/mpt/MPTRedirectToSecureSite.htm.  No “Administrating Code” is needed to Register -- select “I am registering one Pentathlete” OR “I am registering MORE than one Pentathlete” when prompted.

*From this point until Tournament dates, weekly practice sessions will be reserved for students participating in their Division Tournaments.  Please notify Charlotte & Lydia if your student will be in the Tournament so that Teachers/MP Leaders will allow them to remain in the after school sessions.  If your student is not on the updated after school 'list' generated by Gill (not the MP Registration Site), they will be sent home instead of attending these sessions.

Parents, please register your child ASAP!  We will qualify as a National team and I must complete the roster online; however I cannot do this until all Pentathletes have registered.  We will also need all parents of Pentathletes to volunteer:  We must have game Supervisors (for every 2 children there must be 1 parent represented as a game supervisor (to oversee the games at tournament).  We will also need concession stand volunteers, practice tournament helpers, t-shirt distribution helpers, team photographers, score keepers, and someone to hold our space in the stands.  There will be signup sheets at the after school sessions for all to sign up for volunteer roles.  I will have that complete list of volunteer positions available beginning Tuesday, January 12, 2010.  Please note any game preferences on this list and I will try to honor preferences.  Once I have assigned volunteer roles, then I will notify everyone of any additional training opportunities or more detailed information they will need.

Some Pentathlon Tournament information you may need to know before registering:

·        This is an all day event:  Doors open at 7:30 a.m. and the entire competition and awards ceremony is typically done around 3:00 p.m.

·        This is not a drop off event:  Parents must attend with their children and volunteer ~ Children need encouragement and support on this competitive day.

·        We are a team:  Since we all need to volunteer ~ we will need to support all the children as if they are our own on that day.

·        We are National champions ~ 2 years in a row (1st place in 2008 and 2nd place in 2009).

·        We are a sponsoring district ~ We represent in large numbers, and the Farmington District supports this program.  Our High School gets to host the Division 2 tournament!

·        Parents are encouraged to learn the games:  Games can be purchased from the website.  I own them, and if possible you should purchase your own.  Practice makes perfect and our supplies are very limited at the school.

Thank you for supporting this great program for our students!
