Home Get Involved National PTA Resources

Joining the PTA is one of the most important things you can do for your child’s education.  The mission of the PTA is "to support and speak on behalf of children and youth in the schools, in the community, and before governmental bodies and other organizations that make decisions affecting children; to assist parents in developing the skills they need to raise and protect their children; to encourage parent and public involvement in the public schools of this nation."1

Membership brings many benefits including support from the following PTA resources:

Gill Elementary PTA

Your PTA is an active unit dedicated to enriching the lives of Gill students, parents, teachers through its various activities and services.  All parents and staff members are welcome to participate in PTA activities and to attend PTA meetings. Only members, however, are eligible to vote on PTA issues.  We are proud of the accomplishments our local unit achieves every year.  We strive to service all families through in-school and after-school enrichment programs, free social events, and easy access to school and community information through this web site.  We thank all parents and staff members who continue to get involved in PTA activities. "Together We Grow!"

If you are not a member, join today!  Just complete the Membership form and return it to the school office or to any PTA officer.

District Council

Our PTA Council provides direct interaction and coordination with other PTAs/PTOs within the Farmington / Farmington Hills school district.  Our PTA Council president is Chris Greig.  The district council works closely with school district administrators to review, modify and/or develop policy.  Meetings are held every other month in the Maxfield Training Center.  To find out more about the work of the district PTA Council, visit the FPS District PTA Information page within the Farmington Public School web site.

Region

Farmington schools belong to Region D of the Michigan PTSA.  Region D represents eight Michigan "thumb" counties including Oakland, Lapeer, and Macomb. The region provides support through the assignment of PTA Field Representatives who assist in setting up local PTAs, answer questions, and promote PTA.

State

The Michigan PTSA is very active. They sponsor the annual Reflections program and Outstanding Educator of the Year.  The Michigan PTSA works with legislators to discuss school policy and issues with parents. The PTSA also monitors federal and state budget proposals to gage their impact on our children's education. The PTSA web site provides information on topics such as Health and Welfare and Advocacy.

National

The National PTA is the largest volunteer child advocacy organization in the United States. As a member of the national organization, Gill PTA members have access to member only services and information.  IDs and passwords area provided on the back of your PTA membership card.
