Volunteers needed for district-wide PTA event

Hi PTA Supporters-

The Farmington Area PTA Council is once again hosting a 4 day Millionaire Party sanctioned by the Michigan Charitable Gaming division.  We have contracted an outside supplier to provide dealers and equipment;  however we are required to provide to volunteers to work the chip table for purchases and redemptions.  At our first event in June, we made over $3,700.

What is a Millionaire Party?  It's basically charity poker.  Black Jack is also available.  Doc's sets up the gaming area and our vendor runs the show.  All we do is man the cash drawer and chip purchases/redemptions.  Our event will be held Friday, August 14 through Monday, August 17th from 1pm - 2 am at Doc's Sports Retreat in Livonia (near 7 Mile and Newburgh).

School Supply List

Supplies

Farmington Public Schools provides all supplies and materials necessary for your child’s successful school experience. Our experience shows, however, that students will produce better work and treat materials with more responsibility when they voluntarily furnish some of their own supplies. If you prefer that your child have his/her own supplies, we suggest the following:

Kindergarten
·         Family sized Kleenex box
·         2 Glue Sticks

First Grade
·         Generic baby wipes
·         Family sized Kleenex box
·         Crayons (16 count)
·         No individual pencil sharpeners
·         Markers
·         Pencils
·         Erasers

Healthy Tips from Troop 3724

Tips to help you be healthy by Junior Girl Scout Troop 3724

As a junior girl scout, scouts can choose to work on a Bronze Project that can award each of them with the highest award that a Junior Scout can earn. Six of the junior girl scouts at Gill, chose to do this. The Bronze project shows that a girl scout has made a promise to help others, improve her community and the world, and become the best she can be. The project must consist of at least 16 hours of work.

The topic our troop chose, was focused on Health and Wellness. As part of this project, we hung signs about proper hand washing techniques, made 3D models of common germs that make us sick, worked on a variety of bulletin board topics and a booklet entitled "Tips to keep you healthy".  Each girl submitted at least one topic to this booklet, the topics were researched, created and edited on our own.

This booklet is the final part of the project for most of us, but we had to distribute it to Gill families in an environmentally friendly way, so electronically was chosen.

Thank you for your time we had a great time working on this project and learned a lot!  We hope we helped the families of Gill too!  We'd also like to say "thank you" to Mr. Morawski for letting us include Gill in our girl scout project!  We'll miss you, as most of our troop is moving on to Power.

Enjoy your summer!
