McKennett Scholarship Donations

Donations are being collected in memory of Megan McKennett, who was in the class of 2008.
Each spring, Gill PTA awards a $500 Scholarship to a Farmington High School senior who attended Gill Elementary and shares interests held dear by the McKennett family. If you would like to make a donation to the fund, please click here to print the donation form..

Gill Used Book Sale - June 3-5 - Stock up for Summer

The 5th grade class is sponsoring a used book sale.  Gently-used children's books (all kinds) are being collected now through June 2 in Gill classrooms.  The 5th grade class will sell the books in the Media Center June 3-5 for only 25¢ per book.  This is a great way to share your reading treasures with other Gill families and to stock up on reading materials for your own children to enjoy over the summer.

Books will be sold during lunch and recess and various times during the day.  Teachers will sign up for specific classroom time for the students to visit the sale during school hours.  So clean out your book shelves and share those books with others.  And don't forget to stop by the Media Center June 3-5 to stock up on new reading for your family.

Gill's First Mustang Mini-Marathon is Underway!

Ready to lace up your running shoes?  Gill PTA parents are sneaker deep in planning our very first Mustang Mini-Marathon.  Why a mini-marathon?  Two reasons: health and wealth!

Health:  this event will get our kids running, walking and wheeling toward a goal of completing 26.2 (marathon distance) miles each over the summer and fall.  We've all heard that our country is suffering from an obesity epidemic.  What better way to fight the trend than by encouraging our kids to be healthy through regular exercise?  Kids will also get great practice of setting goals, challenging themselves and raising money to better their own education.

Wealth: No pizza kits, no magazines, no trying to get Grandma to buy another box of chocolate turtles. Our mini-marathon will replace our tradition fall catalog fundraiser.  Each Gill participant will seek pledges from family and friends.  And unlike most traditional fundraisers, 100% of the money they earn will directly benefit Gill Elementary.  Assemblies, field trip transportation, teacher grants, school improvements and enrichment programs will continue to be funded by Gill PTA.  Mini-marathon pledges will go directly to the support of these events and programs.

MMM even has its own web site at http://mustangminimarathon.wordpress.com/. Go here often for the latest news on our mini-marathon.  Over the summer, the web site will provide ongoing encouragement and instructions for keeping on track.
