Why Join the PTA?:
The number one reason to join the Parent Teacher Association is to benefit your child. In doing so, you also help Gill. But there are many more advantages. Here are just a few:
Get Connected: There is no better way to know what's happening in Gill and in the community. Meetings features principal and district updates and legislative happenings affecting your child's education.
Be Heard: Because the PTA is a forum for exchanging ideas, you are encouraged to make suggestions. The PTA can be a way for you to more effectively suggest change at Gill.
Discover Great Resources: The PTA offers a variety of programs for parents and students.
Tap Into A Network: Parenting is not easy -- it helps to share ideas, concerns and experiences with other parents and educators in the community. PTA functions are opportunities to meet other parents and teachers, building rapport and discussing issues that are on your mind.
Watch Yourself Grow: By volunteering with your PTA you gain valuable experiences. It's an opportunity to put your skills and hobbies to good use for a good cause -- your child and all children in the community.
Be a part of Gill Improvement: By getting involved at Gill, you'll be part of the solution, helping to make positive changes. Our PTA plays an important role in fundraising to provide building improvements, curriculum-based programs, and social events -- all vital to Gill's success.
Be A Role Model: By becoming a PTA member, you'll be demonstrating to your child the importance you place on education.
Myth: "If I join the PTA they are going to make me to volunteer for things I don't want to do"
Reality: We understand that family life is busy. Nobody would ever ask you to volunteer for something you didn't want to do. There are so many different ways you can help the PTA, chances are you will find something that interests you. If you don't, that's ok too, just being a better informed parent is still contributing.
Myth: "The PTA is all just about fundraising"
Reality: Although fundraising is certainly an important part of what we do, it is only PART of what we do. More important, is what we are able to accomplish with the money and time that is donated. Check out our volunteer page on the "Get Involved" menu and read about all the different programs and events that the PTA brings to Gill.
Myth: "Sure the PTA organizes some fun events. But it doesn't do anything to help the REAL problems our school is facing"
Reality: The PTA has done a LOT to make our school a better learning environment for our kids. We have been able to purchase an iPad for each classroom along with several smart boards. Along with grants for each teacher for classrooms supplies and equipment.
